Here’s a photo of a cedar waxwing (bombycilla cedrorum) that I took last year. These birds never seem to hang around any one place for very long, which makes it hard to get pictures of them. I was using my Canon 1.4x extender when I took this shot, hence the long focal length. It helps you get closer at the expense of focusing ability (at least with the lens/camera combo that I was using).
Camera: Canon EOS T1i, Exposure Time: 1/640, Aperture: f/8, ISO: 200, Focal Length: 560mm

Where was this Steve? He looks like he’s made out of chocolate! 🙂
It was down by the lake.
Nice shot! 🙂
Ah, such beautiful birds. They are definitely difficult ones to photograph, always on the move.
Thanks Jon. I like how their colours are so defined, as if they had been painted on.
Aye, they do look almost painted…like a watercolor wash. Speaking of painted birds, I’ve always wanted to see a painted bunting…one of the most colorful small songbirds, vibrantly colored.
