I visited the Clifford E. Lee Nature Sanctuary yesterday. I only recently became aware of this natural area when I noticed a sign for it on the highway just south of the Devonian Gardens we visited on Canada Day. It has a nice trail route, part of which is a boardwalk along a small lake, with some lookout areas. It wasn’t the easiest place to photograph wildlife though, as the waterfowl were quite far from the lookouts and most of the other birds were fairly high in the trees. I did get this shot of a Milbert’s Tortoiseshell (aglais milberti) butterfly though.

I’ve tried shooting butterflies before…man, easier said than done. Nice capture here.
Yeah, it’s tough to get them both with wings open and not just sitting on the ground. Not to mention getting close enough. I shoot them at 400mm and still end up cropping almost every shot.
