Penguins from South Africa

One thing we weren’t really expecting to see in Africa was penguins. But I guess if there can be penguins from Madagascar, why not South Africa? These guys were on a beach at Simon’s Town and the reason most of them have their eyes closed is because the wind was blowing sand everywhere.

Table Mountain and Cape Town, South Africa

Table Mountain was another really cool place we got to visit in Africa. If you are ever near Cape Town, you HAVE to go up there, weather permitting. The views are amazing. It was another one of the times that being on a tour didn’t allow me the time I would have liked to spend up there.

Oribi Gorge, South Africa, pics plus video

Oribi Gorge was a very cool place. Aside from the amazing scenery, there was a fantastic zip line tour we went on. And a super scary jeep ride back up after we got to the bottom.

Dramatic African Skies

Today I have a few photos of some of the dramatic skies and sunsets that we saw in Africa. The first and last were in Zimbabwe on the Zambezi river. The second was the beach at Amanzimtoti, near Durban. The third was in Kruger National Park where we were on our safari game drives.

Victoria Falls was amazing. There was so much mist we got drenched. I wasn’t really prepared for that and I had a hard time keeping my camera relatively dry.

Today I have for you a selection of different antelope varieties. Working from top-left to bottom-right, they are waterbuck, kudu, wildebeest, and impala. They were all pretty much at home on the range…

Cheetahs in South Africa

Here’s a couple of cheetahs I saw in Africa. They say these guys are fast, but they were pretty relaxed this day and just walked down the road. I guess it wasn’t a good hunting day for them. I figured Saturday would be a good day to post these photos, in honor of so-called ‘caturday’.

Giraffes from South Africa

Another widely adored African animal is the giraffe. If it were up to me, I would take the buffalo out of the Big Five and replace it with the giraffe. But I guess that’s not the way it works, so I’ll just be happy with the fact that we saw some while we were there.

South African Creepy Crawlies

Today I have a selection of a few of the less visible creatures we saw in South Africa. Some skinks relaxing in the sun, spiders in their webs, and a caterpillar at the end of his leaf. I said less visible only because they are all small and might be unnoticed by a lot of people. However, everyone noticed the spiders where we were for our safari. They were everywhere!
