Another rocky shoreline with crashing waves. This will be the last post from our Hawaii trip, as I’ve finally come to the end of the photos that I took while we were there. I hope everyone has enjoyed them. It only took me three and a half months to get through them all, not bad?

Waipiʻo Valley Lookout in Hawaii

This is a nice scenic spot on the north side of the big island of Hawaii. If you have a 4×4 you can drive down. We were pressed for time on that, our last day on the island, so we just enjoyed the view from the top.

On Papakōlea Green Sand Beach

Well, here was the view from actually down on Papakōlea green sand beach. If you’re anything like me, by now you’re thinking it’s a bit of a stretch to call it green. More like green-ISH sand beach if you ask me. I think it’s more sort of a gold colour and I think it reproduced fairly accurately in this photo. Perhaps in the shade when it’s less sparkly it might appear a bit more green. Either way it is definitely different than any of the other beaches in Hawaii being ‘white’ or black sand, so it was something cool to see at least once.

Littered Beach

We passed this section of shoreline on the southern tip of the big island on our way to see a green sand beach. It was an interesting spot because of all the driftwood and garbage that had washed ashore. I used some extra processing on this photo to bring out the details of the ground and clouds.

Red Rock on Pololu Valley Beach in Hawaii

The black sand beach at Pololu Valley was also quite rocky. When I spotted this red rock in the midst of all the grey ones I knew I had to get a photo with it.

Pololu Valley Lookout in Hawaii

This is a shot of Pololu Valley on the north side of Hawaii’s big island. We followed the trail that goes down to the black sand beach that you can just see in the bottom right of the photo. It was a more challenging hike than normal when it started raining on our way back up.

Honu – Sea Turtle

Here is another green sea turtle, halfway out of the water. The Hawaiian name for these turtles is Honu, and they are an endangered species.

Let sleeping turtles lie

This was the first sea turtle we saw on our vacation. I didn’t even notice him asleep on the rocks until some guy pointed him out to me. They camouflage very well. We never saw one actually end up on the rocks like that, but they remain sleeping in the sun until the tide comes in so that they can leave again without too much effort. And, watching them, it is a LOT of effort it takes for them to move around out of the water.
