A bull elk digging through the snow to find grass from when we were in Jasper after Christmas. Hard to believe, but this is the first picture of an elk that I have posted since 2012. Guess I should pay a little more attention to them, they are beautiful animals.

An interesting ice formation is random number photo 620. I loved the colour that the setting sun added to this scene. And yes, I’m spelling colour the Canadian way even though the spell checker underlines it in red in the editor.

Every which way (Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge)

Just south of Palm Desert there is this great highway called the Roy Wilson Memorial Hwy. It’s marvelously twisty and has a couple of great lookout points. I was able to set up my tripod and get this long exposure shot of the really bendy bits shortly after sunset. I used a combination of about 15 shots to get this. Most of them were around 30 second exposures, but the last one was just over 4 minutes and it really brought every thing together nicely. Fortunately there was a fair amount of traffic so I was able to get the entire section lit up with headlights and taillights.

Random Number Photo 4589 – Yellow Warbler

Today I thought of something new to try with my blog. Pick a random number between 1 and the latest number of photo that I’ve taken and post the best photo that most closely matches that number. I’ll give it a reasonable plus/minus, just because they’re not all keepers, so I may end up varying from the actual selected number somewhat, but it’s a starting point. I just wanted to try something to keep up the activity here as it can sometimes be weeks in between when I actually make a new photograph that’s worth sharing. So I Googled ‘random number generator’ and the first hit brought me to random.org. Today’s number is 4589, so I’ve selected this photo of a yellow warbler (actual number 4572).
