This photo was taken in the Living Desert Zoo in Palm Desert, CA. It was originally a whole head portrait, but I cropped in when I realized the reflection of the young giraffe in front was visible in the eye.

Another widely adored African animal is the giraffe. If it were up to me, I would take the buffalo out of the Big Five and replace it with the giraffe. But I guess that’s not the way it works, so I’ll just be happy with the fact that we saw some while we were there.

South Africa – Giraffes

The Big Five were originally chosen for being the most dangerous game animals to hunt. Since we as civilized people no longer hunt these animals (die, poachers), it seems to me that the new Big Five should be something more endearing to tourists. I would suggest that most people would rather see a giraffe or zebra than a buffalo. I don’t know, maybe that’s just me. Anyway, here are a few of my giraffe photographs for you to enjoy today.
