Frosty Grass by Train Tracks

Another foggy, frosty photograph. How many more of these can my readers take? This one features some frosty grass in the foreground, with the train tracks leading off in the background. I was pretty happy with the composition of this image, even though I don’t remember putting too much thought into it at the time I took it. Perhaps I’m getting better at doing this automatically.

Disappearing Tracks

Here’s another shot of some train tracks from an eye level perspective. I liked how the tracks disappeared into the fog so I purposely included a lot of the blank sky in the composition of this shot. Sometimes ‘white space’ can literally be white space. Hopefully this isn’t too bright for anyone’s eyes. For you histogram people, this is no clipping in this image, and in fact I could have even made it brighter before that would have occurred.

St. Albert Grain Elevators

Historic grain elevators in St. Albert, AB Canada. I was inspired to come to this location by the “Wiki Loves Monuments” contest going on asking for people to take photos of historical buildings around Canada. Since I happen to live pretty close to a few, I decided to give it a shot. This is one of the images I ended up with. I spent a bit more time processing this photo than the version that I sent the wiki commons to bring out more of the dynamic range of the lighting.

Sun setting beyond the railway tracks. I sometimes forget to try and take more interesting photographs by changing my perspective. For this shot the camera was actually resting directly on the rail as I took it. Dawn was keeping an eye out for trains…
