I’m not sure if this little guy is a type of ground squirrel or a chipmunk. We saw him along the trail at the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff, AB.

This squirrel let me get pretty close, but I did make him a bit nervous I think. He wasn’t ready to abandon the seeds that people had left out for the birds though, so he just gave me a quick stare-down before going back to eating.

On our last day in Montana we spent some time in Glacier National Park again. Our first stop was at Logan’s Pass. We actually got there early enough to get a parking spot without having to troll around the lot like a shark looking for a stray seal. We hiked to the lookout for Hidden Lake which was nice except that it rained on us a bit which prevented me from getting some of the shots I had envisioned. These ground squirrels were so tame that they got close enough for Dawn to briefly pet one of them. I only had my camera about a foot away from them for this shot.

Pyramid Lake is one spot in Jasper we like to go when we just have a small amount of time before dinner or whatever. It’s just a short drive north through town. If you keep going past the resort you will soon arrive at the island. It’s a nice short walk that still promises some scenery and possibly small wildlife. Ok pretty much just squirrels, unless you count the minnows in the lake or my niece, seen here getting her picture taken by my brother-in-law.

Here’s another couple of shots from Jasper in 2011. I liked the squirrel’s pose on the end of the branch. The bighorn sheep kept his eyes on me the whole time. I was outside of the car, but really didn’t get very close. Dawn was convinced he was going to charge me though, because of the way he was staring me down. In the end, I escaped with my life….
