Somehow I always thought pelicans only lived in the ocean. Apparently not true, since there are some living in a small lake in Edmonton, AB. Thanks to Jane I found out about them and went to take a look. One thing I learned is that to get a good takeoff or landing shot you probably need to spend a lot more than just a half hour by the lake. Like the guy I saw there using a gimbal-head tripod. I’d like to see what kind of shots he ended up with…

Those wings on the 4th picture, amazing!
Thanks!
I agree, love the wings in the last one. How much fun that must have been to take photos of.
Thanks it was fun, I need to go back again.
I love watching these birds. We have had them every summer here for the last 15 years or so. Most of my pictures stink so I suggest you go back and get some more so I can buy one of yours – lol. My favorite thing about them is when they circle and soar with the sun reflecting off of their white wings. And when they cruise by low over the water.
I think they used to come here years ago (like 50-100??) and quit because of pollution and returned after we cleaned up the waters enough.
Thanks Sue. They are quite graceful birds despite how they’re usually portrayed in animated films…
Thanks for the nod, Steve. Beautiful blues and soaring .
No problem, thanks for letting me know about them!
